Samsung Galaxy S I9000 users worldwide now have a reason to smile as the official rollout of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update might not be too faraway. As we’ve said earlier that Gingerbrad update would come in mid-April, it seems to be happening now as planned by Samsung. Though we haven’t heard any official announcement from Samsung, Galaxy S users in the Noridc countries (with product code NEE)along with users in Netherlands and Germany reported to have successfully installed the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS update using Samsung Kies after April 15.

Samsung Galaxy S I9000, the South Korean mobile phone manufacturer’s flagship smartphone was launched in 2010 with Android OS 2.1 and users received the Android 2.2 Froyo update during the last fall. Apart from the minor complaints about non-functional GPS, the smartphone has been received well throughout the world and more than 10 million units of Galaxy S have been sold worldwide.

Some of the Galaxy S users could taste Android 2.3 beforehand, thanks to Galaxy S i9000 Gingerbread leak. Now by rolling out the Android 2.3 update officially, Samsung became the first mobile phone manufacturer to offer Android 2.3 Gingerbread update to their handsets. The rollout to other users might take some more time and the U.S users could well receive the update a bit later than other non-US users as we had seen in the case of Android 2.1 Froyo update which some of the US users could get only during the end-February this year.
